Our PI, Prof. Maria Pappas, participated in the GR-I-CE Conference 2026 in Athens, an international event bringing together academia, research, and industry to advance green innovation, sustainability, and the circular economy.
On 11 May 2026, Prof. Pappas delivered the invited presentation “Circular Economy Needs Biology: Insects as Missing Metabolism”, highlighting the role of insects in circular economy solutions and sustainable development, as well as the aims and expected outcomes of the INSECTFASS project.
On 13 May 2026, she also co-chaired, together with Prof. Christos Rumbos, the session “Circular Economy: From Organic Waste to Value – Insect Bioconversion as a Circular Economy Pathway”, which explored the potential of insect bioconversion to transform organic waste into valuable products, including sustainable feed, fertilizers, and agricultural inputs.
The participation of INSECTFASS in GR-I-CE 2026 showcased the important contribution of insect-based solutions to a more circular and sustainable bioeconomy.
